How long does cake last? Fridge, freezer & pantry
Stored properly, cake keeps in the fridge for 5 days and in the freezer for about 2 months. Once cooked or cut, use it within about 3 days.
| Fridge | 5 days |
|---|---|
| Freezer | about 2 months |
| Pantry (room temp) | Not recommended |
| Once cooked or cut | 3 days (refrigerated) |
Times are for unopened, properly stored cake and reflect best quality. Always use your senses and follow any date on the package.
Signs cake has gone bad
- Visible mould — discard the whole item, don't just cut around it.
- Stale, hard, or dried-out texture.
- Off or sour smell.
When in doubt, throw it out — the cost of a spoiled meal isn't worth the risk.
Best way to store cake
Keep bread at room temperature in a bread box or paper bag for a few days — the fridge actually makes bread go stale faster. For longer storage, freeze it sliced so you can toast what you need straight from the freezer.
