How long does tofu last? Fridge, freezer & pantry
Stored properly, tofu keeps in the fridge for 7 days and in the freezer for about 3 months. Once cooked or cut, use it within about 5 days.
| Fridge | 7 days |
|---|---|
| Freezer | about 3 months |
| Pantry (room temp) | Not recommended |
| Once cooked or cut | 5 days (refrigerated) |
Times are for unopened, properly stored tofu and reflect best quality. Always use your senses and follow any date on the package.
Signs tofu has gone bad
- Rancid or stale smell — nuts, seeds, and nut butters turn over time.
- Mould, sliminess, or an off texture.
- Loss of crispness or an unusual taste.
When in doubt, throw it out — the cost of a spoiled meal isn't worth the risk.
Best way to store tofu
Keep dry snacks airtight in a cool, dark pantry. Nuts, seeds, and nut butters keep far longer in the fridge or freezer because their oils go rancid at room temperature. Fresh herbs and tofu belong in the fridge.
